31ST AUGUST 2026

Today’s ceremony signifies far more than a transition in institutional leadership. It reflects the continuity of purpose, the strength of our regional institutions, and the unwavering commitment of (ECOWAS) to promoting good governance, protecting the integrity of our financial systems, and collectively confronting the growing threats posed by money laundering, terrorist financing, illicit financial flows, and other forms of transnational organised crime.
Over the years, GIABA has established itself as one of ECOWAS’ most respected specialised institutions. Through its technical assistance, mutual evaluation processes, capacity-building initiatives, policy advocacy, and strategic partnerships, it has significantly contributed to strengthening national institutions, enhancing legal and regulatory frameworks, and supporting Member States in meeting international standards in the fight against financial crime.
These accomplishments stand as a testament to the dedication of the institution and the leadership that has guided its evolution.
On behalf of His Excellency Mr. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, and Honourable Serign Modou Njie, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, His Excellency the High Commissioner expresses the profound appreciation to the outgoing Director-General, Mr. Edwin W. Harris Jr., for his distinguished service and invaluable contribution to our Community and for his exemplary leadership, distinguished service, and steadfast commitment to advancing GIABA’s noble mandate.

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency the High Commissioner, extends the warmest congratulations to Mr. Mam Cherno Jallow on his appointment as Director-General of GIABA.
We have every confidence that, under the leadership of Mr. Mam Cherno Jallow, GIABA will continue to consolidate its strategic relevance within ECOWAS while expanding its positive impact across West Africa.
