
The Fourth Session of the Senegal–Gambia Presidential Council was held in Dakar under the co-chairmanship of His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye of the Republic of Senegal and His Excellency President Adama Barrow of the Republic of The Gambia.
The two Heads of State reviewed progress made since the Third Session held in Banjul in August 2023 and endorsed the recommendations submitted by the Joint Meetings of Experts and Ministers. They welcomed the significant achievements recorded and agreed on a roadmap to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership between the two neighbouring countries, underscoring their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in peace and security, economic integration, infrastructure development and human development.
Key outcomes included enhanced collaboration in defence, trade facilitation, transport and energy connectivity, judicial cooperation, higher education, and cross-border infrastructure. The Presidents also reaffirmed their commitment to improving the free movement of people and goods, strengthening the Dakar–Banjul Corridor, and advancing regional integration in line with ECOWAS objectives.
The Council further agreed to expand cooperation in health, education, vocational training, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, digital transformation, youth development, sports and environmental sustainability, with a strong focus on improving the well-being of citizens.
At the conclusion of the session, the two Presidents approved all recommendations presented by the Experts and Ministers, directed their timely implementation, and agreed to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and political dialogue. They also endorsed the establishment of a Joint Working Group to examine the future institutional evolution of Senegal–Gambia bilateral cooperation.
The two Heads of State reaffirmed their shared vision of building a peaceful, stable and prosperous Senegambia that serves as a model of regional integration in West Africa. President Adama Barrow expressed his appreciation to President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, the Government and the people of Senegal for the warm hospitality extended to the Gambian delegation.
